The opportunity…

This successful financial services organisation are currently bolstering their SRE capabilities and have multiple opportunities for SREs to join their team. They're looking for people at a range of experience levels (junior - senior) to come on board.

This is a high performance environment that really encourages personal growth and development via a range of activities i.e. internal mentoring / training, external courses, conferences etc. They follow the Spotify Agile model and these roles will fit into the Engineering Chapter, reporting into a Chapter Lead. Long term there are opportunities for progression and multiple potential career pathways available.

These roles will be based in Bristol although a healthy home/office balance is encouraged and people will be able to work from home a few days each week (currently the team is working completely remotely). There will be an on call aspect to these roles roughly 1 week in every 6 / 8 weeks.

The role:

As a Site Reliability Engineer you will be responsible for building / maintaining large scale systems and ensuring that performance and service is optimised across the business.

You'll have accountability for microservices running on AWS Fargate, and Java / Python based apps running in AWS cloud. You'll look out for opportunities to improve on CI/CD and SDLC processes, conduct post-mortems, and implement solutions to resolve issues and prevent reoccurrence. You will also automate tasks, streamline ETL jobs, and build & run dashboards and monitoring tools.

Skills & Experience:

  • Cloud expertise - preferably with AWS as this is the main platform here, but open to people from Azure, GCP and DigitalOcean backgrounds too
  • Solid coding / scripting experience across a range of languages - Python is the main scripting language used in this environment, experience with Java, Bash, Powershell will also be beneficial
  • Strengths with monitoring tools, ideally AppDynamics and CloudWatch but Grafana, Prometheus also relevant
  • Containerisation experience - Docker Swarm, Fargate, Kubernetes will all be beneficial here
  • Good familiarity with SRE standards and best practices to a varying degree (depending on the level of role you are applying for)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
