The opportunity…

Exciting opportunity for a recent graduate ready to start their career in IT & Cyber Security. This successful organisation is a leading retailer and has been recognised as one of the top 25 big companies to work for in the UK. They have invested significantly in their security space and are currently expanding their team.

This position would suit someone who has recently graduated and is passionate about technology and cyber security. A very supportive environment with significant mentoring and long term training will be provided.

The role will be based full time in Altrincham, a quick tram ride away from Manchester city centre.

What will you be doing?

You will be working as part of a security team within a larger IT environment and will be specifically focused on application security and vulnerability management.

A key portion of the position will be to develop your IT and cyber security skills, and your responsibilities will grow to include:

  • Collaborating with software development teams and working to ensure coding practices are followed and the business has safe and robust applications in line with secure by default and privacy by design principles
  • Verifying the security of web applications through specific testing such as Static and Dynamic Application Security Testing (SAST / DAST)
  • Monitoring and responding to alerts from the web application firewall
  • Carrying out vulnerability assessments and penetration testing, and protecting company social media accounts

What attributes will set you up for success?

We're looking for someone who is passionate about IT and motivated to build a career here. You don't need to have any commercial experience, we are more interested in your commitment to learning and enthusiasm for cyber security. To set you up for success in the role you should be able to demonstrate the following, and the rest we can teach you:

  • You will have graduated recently with at least a 2:1 - you may have completed a degree in Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Maths, but we are open to other subjects too
  • A general understanding of software development and experience with coding in 2 or more languages, preferably web languages such as Ruby or Python - this can either be from university studies or your own personal research
  • Curiosity and a desire to solve problems and think analytically
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as you will be working with teams across the business
  • Experience working under pressure and towards deadlines - either from your studies or extra-curricular responsibilities
