Job description

Network Security Engineer (Fortigate / Cisco / Cyber Security) - Manchester -

Opening for a Network Security Engineer with a well established Retail client in Manchester. Initially this is a 6 month contract with potential extensions available.


  • Proven experience conducting security control assessments or audits, including maintaining sufficient technical skills and understanding to be able to conduct assessments of Fortigate, Cisco, and Cisco Meriaki network devices to verify whether they have been configured in line with industry accepted standards and have been sufficiently secured.
  • Keeps up-to-date with developments and uses professional knowledge to anticipate trends and amend working practices accordingly.

Viewed as a network security expert and shares specialist knowledge to improve performance

Experience & knowledge

  • Deep understanding and practical experience of Fortigate technologies, including hardening, the creation and management of logical security zones, TLS / SSL off-loading, and monitoring.
  • Experience working with cyber security standards, frameworks, and general compliance-led initiatives, including achieving Cyber Security Essentials and ISO 27001 compliance.
  • A solid technical understanding and strong knowledge of cyber security best practice, common attack types and detection/prevention methods, including CISecurity Benchmarks and NIST guidelines.

A Typical Day - Network Security Engineer

A typical day will involve the discover of network components and the development of hardening standards and templates to secure the device in line with industry accepted practices as well as ensuring that the networks within the clients data centres and external sites is segmented into appropriate security zones with effective network security monitoring in place.

Ideally you will have one or more relevant cloud security qualifications from a recognised body, such as Fortigate, Network Security Expert programme or Cisco CCSP.
